Unschooling and Time

Apparently school started about a week ago in my town.

I say apparently because I had no idea. 😂

I have to say, this is one of the things I've enjoyed most about our unschooling journey.

I am blissfully unaware of time most of the time.

And I LOVE it!

One of the best things about unschooling, for me, is that we just go about our day to day lives, not restricted by the school schedule. We don't have to go to bed at a certain time. We don't have to get up early and rush through our mornings. We don't have to carefully pack and organize lunches and backpacks. And now that we have homeschooling buddies, we don't have to schedule playdates around the school schedule so much!

Our daily routine looks something like this :

The girls wake up. Z makes them eggs to share (yes, my 5yr cooks). They eat. Z watches YouTube videos while little sister wanders naked. Z wakes me to say they're getting in the bath. Z bathes them both. AJ binge nurses for a good 20mins-half hour. We get up and waller for a bit. I make lunch at some point if Z hasn't already fed herself. Then we either flop and play, or we go do plans we made. Sis takes a nap at some point. We talk throughout the day. Do whatever we want. Learn at random. Dinner is around 5ish. We spend time together as a family. Bed time rolls around at some point, usually around 8-9.

It's really very relaxing in the grand scheme of things. Of course there is a house to clean once the kids have wrecked it. Fights to either watch them resolve or help. Discussions. Games to be played. Needs to be met. Resources to be found. Books to be read while a toddler screams and tries to snatch it. Problems to be solved. Ect ect. Life as a stay at home mom isn't all fun and games and sitting on your butt. But when you look at how... busy and rushed everyone else is, you really gotta appreciate the freedom.

And I do. I do appreciate it. This decision has led to an increasingly peaceful life. One where I can slow down and really enjoy each moment with my family. One where we can sleep in and not worry about it. One where I can spend 30 minutes fully satiating my eldest's curiosity. In this life we can wear pajamas or get dressed up or wear nothing at all... and it doesn't matter. We can wait til it's dark to do sparklers. I can wake my kids in the middle of the night to come check out some cool shit the moon is doing.

It's beautiful really. Some days it's hard and I consider using school as a way to get a break from my crazy little wildlings, but at the end of the day I wouldn't trade this for anything in the world, much less a world where that bright little light inside of my precious babies is snuffed out in exchange for conformity and obedience. F*** all that noise!

So here's to spending my time not worrying about time! #Unschooling4TheWin!
