Saturday, August 20th I protested (Male Genital Mutilation) in Morrison, IL.
I chose this day because it was the busiest day of the Whiteside County Fair!
Sadly, many couldn't make it because it was lightly raining on and off.. But I got out there anyways! πͺπ
At first I brought my girls, as Z has been looking forward to this for a while & baby girl never likes to be too far from the boobie. π
But the weather was crappy and little Miss AJ wasn't feeling the best, so after a little while I took her home to dad. But not before she decided she wanted to copy big sister and walk around with sissy's little sign. π
It was SO cute watching big sis teach little sis how to hold the sign right & I'm so glad she'll be taught right, right from the get go! These girls are gonna be such amazing mama's one day!
So I took her home and nursed her to sleep because she was ready for a nap, then me and my big girl headed out again.
We enjoyed protesting together for a little bit, though I had to remind her a few times not to chant at people! π But after a while she got bored and decided to play up in the grass. Eventually she agreed to go home and hang out with daddy for a little while. ♡ During this time, an adorable elderly man approached us wondering if we were collecting money π΅ for something. I thought that was super sweet, even if it did end in an awkward exchange. π
On the way back after dropping her off I noticed a man sitting across from the grocery store with a sign saying "Down on my luck, can you help?" I stopped by to get a pic to share on the local fb page to get him some help & stayed to talk for a bit. I really enjoyed chatting with him, he seemed like a cool catπΈ!
Eventually I got my butt back up there & this time a friend joined me so I didn't have to stand alone. π I would have gladly protested alone, as this is something I believe wholeheartedly in, but it was nice to have some company. AND I finally found my sunglasses! #WHOOPWHOOP
I was trying to do my usual silent, blank faced protest but with him around I couldn't stop laughing and smiling. He definitely made the experience much more fun! π
Finally I had to head home, as I promised my sister I'd watch the kiddos for a bit, so that concluded our protest.
All in all it was a fairly uneventful protest. I mostly got flipped off by old ladies π & had a few people shout nasty things in our direction π. There was though, a good bit of traffic despite the weather, and we got a good chunk of friendly honks and thumbs up. π Yay for raising awareness!
Whether it was eventful or not, I had a blast getting out there. It's always exhilarating to hit the streets and physically DO something to make a difference. Hopefully next year the weather cooperates so the rest of my Intactivist friends can join in the fun.
